December 21, 2023Alcohol-induced hepatic steatosis, also known as alcoholic fatty liver disease, is the first stage of alcoholic liver disease (ALD). It occurs when the liver metabolizes alcohol and fat builds up in the liver cells, which can impair liver function. This can happen after drinking too much alcohol for as little as two weeks, and about 90% of people who regularly drink excessive amounts of alcohol have fatty liver disease.
